Mountainlair turning into African village
Free concert part of Diversity Week

The Mountainlair Food Court will take on the likeness of an African village tonight.
The West Virginia University African Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Paschal Yao Younge, will perform a free concert from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. as part of Diversity Week.

Buchanan formally leaves Republican Party

Calhoun County leads state in unemployment
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Calhoun County had the state’s highest unemployment for September with a rate of 14.4 percent, displacing Mingo, which had had the highest unemployment for three months.

Going too far

In an otherwise uninteresting election, the battle for one of Missouri’s Senate seats has gotten decidedly ugly, in more ways than one.

An evening of percussion bliss
This year’s Percussion Ensemble Concert featured the grandest of finales

Diversity was the key to the percussion concert’s appeal. Starting off the concert was a sampling of Japanese, African and other exotic music. Classical music came next, and moving swiftly from classical to Caribbean, the concert never lost appeal. Then, salsa music came and went before the sound swung to more traditional percussion.  An Ozzy Osborne original even snuck into the show. Finally, what started as a Louisiana classic ended as a big band finale. All this music in a matter of two hours.
