Finance expert proposes alternative to excess levies

CHARLESTON — West Virginia’s system of funding education must be reformed because the current method prohibits students from receiving the education necessary to break out of poverty, a finance expert testified Thursday.
Richard Salmon, a professor at Virginia Tech, was the latest expert to testify in hearings to determine if West Virginia adequately provides resources to public schools in the state’s 55 counties.

Wrestler rides season-opening roll

The West Virginia University wrestling team will begin its dual match season tomorrow against EWL rival Clarion at 1:00 p.m. in the Shell Building. The Mountaineers are currently ranked 16th in the nation and are led by senior Vertus Jones.
