Israel criticized for Gaza airstrike

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Holding up the flag-wrapped body of a 2-month-old girl, tens of thousands of Palestinians marched Tuesday to bury their dead after an Israeli airstrike killed a top Hamas leader and 14 civilians, including nine children. The Islamic militant group vowed revenge.
President Bush called the Israeli missile strike “heavy-handed,” joining other world leaders in sharp criticism of the attack, which leveled an apartment building and destroyed other nearby buildings in a crowded neighborhood of Gaza City overnight.

W.Va. summer festival season comes alive

West Virginia’s music festival season peaked this past weekend with the Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash at Sunshine Daydream Music Festival campground in Terra Alta.
With a lineup including ekoostic hookah and Jazz Mandolin Project (featuring legendary percussionist Jon Fishman) the campground was packed. Hundreds of people gathered around the stage to see Jazz Mandolin and Fishman. Even Jerry was there, if only in spirit. The image of the festival’s patron saint hung on a huge back lit banner at the rear of the stage, smiling down on the band and the crowd.

The 45th annual Big 33 Pennsylvania-Ohio All Star Football Classic was held this past Saturday in Hershey, Pa. West Virginia was well represented in the contest, as six future Mountaineers took part in the game.
