Year two of the Mike Carey regime begins today when the WVU women’s basketball team travels to Mount St. Mary’s for a 7 p.m tipoff.
The Mountaineers are looking to build upon last year’s surprise 14-14 season and will depend on the scoring to come from the same three as last year: Kate Bulger, Sherell Sowho and Yolanda Paige.
Bulger, a third team All-Big East selection, returns for her junior year after averaging 15.4 points a season ago. Sowho, who led the team in scoring during the preseason, will look to improve on her 13.9 points per game average.  Page is set to better her numbers of 11.9 points per game and 5.46 assists from her freshman year.
Eartha White, Liz Holbrook  and Michelle Carter will fill out the frontcourt for West Virginia.
The Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers are guided by fifth year head coach Vanessa Blair. The team returns nine players to mix with four newcomers.
Adrienne Harris, a 5-foot-4  inch guard from Richmond, Va.,     will lead the other Mountaineers. Harris scored 24 points in an exhibition game against MI Express.
This is the second year in a row the two teams have squared off to begin the season. Last season, WVU blew out Mount St. Mary’s 77-57 in the Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Knott Arena.
