Judge wants more evidence in case of American-born detainee

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A federal judge demanded Friday that the government give him more evidence than the ‘‘sparse facts’’ it has provided so far to explain why it is holding an American-born man captured in Afghanistan late last year.
U.S. District Judge Robert Doumar rejected the government’s bid to avoid submitting additional evidence in the case of Yaser Esam Hamdi, who was born in Louisiana and later moved to Saudi Arabia with his Saudi parents. Hamdi, 21, has been held in the Norfolk Naval Station brig since April 5.

Soccer team, new coach look to ‘02

After a dismal 2001 season that saw the WVU men’s soccer team finish 5-11, a change was in order. Paul Marco was replaced as the head coach with a fiery, successful coach from Myerstown, Pa., by the name of Keith Fulk.
