by Paul Sebert ATHENAEUM STAFF I regret having to start this column off on a sad note,
but former WCW wrestler Bobby Duncum Jr. passed away on Sunday night. As
of yet no official cause of death has been reported, but some unofficial
reports are claiming he possibly overdosed on a fatal combination of alcohol
and painkillers. Duncum was best known as a member of Curt Henning’s West
Texas Rednecks posse. While I never really followed Duncum’s career, I
do extend my grievances to Duncum’s friends and family.
by Bruce Sachs ATHENAEUM STAFF When I put the Tony Trishka Band CD in the player I expected
to hear some old-fashioned bluegrass from a banjo pioneer. Boy, was I surprised.
by David Bauder ATHENAEUM STAFF NEW YORK — This is getting monotonous: “Who Wants to Be
a Millionaire” was the most-watched TV show last week. And the second most
popular. And the third.
by Adam Pedro Perry ATHENAEUM STAFF Contrary to popular belief, Mike Patton’s No. 1 priority
was always Mr. Bungle. The fact that the oddball vocalist wore one of their
t-shirts during Faith No More’s controversial MTV breakthrough video, “Epic,”
is proof enough. According to many loyal fans of “Bungle,” who are known
for mixing bits of brilliant prog-rock ala-Frank Zappa with hugely experimental
techno, jazz and trashy hardcore, Faith No More was a metal version of
the Spin Doctors (i.e. “We Care A lot”) before Patton took the reigns over
a decade ago.
