by Paul Sebert ATHENAEUM STAFF The Beach is Leonardo DiCaprio’s first movie since the
hype of Titanic died down. The film was clearly made as a star vehicle
for DiCaprio, and I can see why he might have seen The Beach as a good
opportunity. The film gives him a wide range of tests as an actor, and
DiCaprio largely succeeds. He’s also given a supporting cast of actors
who can all work on his level. Unfortunately, The Beach ultimately fails
for reasons that no actor can overcome.
